Tennessee Trojan Baseball

Coaching Philosophy

A coach is a pivotal figure in the lives of young players, serving not just as an instructor in: fielding ground balls; hitting and pitching techniques; it also incorporates values such as Teamwork, Perseverance, Work Ethic, and a Positive Approach to the game of Baseball.

A coach’s influence extends far beyond those technical aspects of the game. The way a coach presents himself to his players and their parents sets the tone for the team.

For The Player

Each child is unique both physically and mentally. As such, their development of baseball skills and maturity will differ and cannot be compared to other players.

With that in mind, it is important to set, not only team goals, but also specific goals for each player.

My goal for each member of the Tennessee Trojans is to:

  • Help each player improve their individual skills,
  • Impart a strong sense of loyalty to the team and all other team members
  • Teach each player how to function in a team environment
  • Help them grow in self-confidence so they can deal with the pressure of game situations
  • To teach and develop the 5 Tools for Success:
    1. (1) Hitting for power
    2. (2) Hitting for average
    3. (3) Speed,
    4. (4) Arm strength
    5. (5) Fielding

In the effort to achieve the goals, I believe these are the attributes of a good coach:

  • Be Positive and Provide Supportive Guidance
  • Let The players Have Some Fun, After All – It’s A Game
  • Emphasize Improvement, Effort and Attitude
  • Communicate Expectations Clearly and Be a Good Listener
  • Give Each Player At Least 50% Playing Time: Players Learn Skills From Doing and Getting Playing Time
  • Teach The Value of Sportsmanship

WE TEACH THE KIDS TO BE WINNERS EVEN IF THEY LOSE A BASEBALL GAME.
