4 Basics of Pitching

Proper pitching begins with a solid foundation. That’s why we focus on the importance of proper pitching mechanics for the long-term success and well-being of a young baseball player.

Pitching is a complex and dynamic movement that puts a significant amount of stress on the arm and body, so learning the right techniques is crucial.

Here is a breakdown of the 4 basics of pitching that we teach:

  • Balance

When we bring our front leg up a pitcher must be able to maintain balance on his back leg. Tilting back or forward to keep balance is not good enough. A pitcher must be able to stand still on his back leg.

  • Follow Through

A pitcher should finish over his front foot and reach to his front knee to ensure balance, velocity and control.
